Company Ortofon was founded in 1918 by two Danish engineers, Excel Petersen and Arnold Paulsen. These pioneers had one very clear goal - to combine video with sound, and to this end they founded the company Electrical Fonofilms A / S, later renamed Ortofon A / S. A few years later, they caused a sensation, having in the Palace Theatre, Copenhagen, presented its first fully-synchronized sound films.
In addition, Ortofon has been the first company that had an audible film outdoors. The founders have received several patents, and founded a license for film companies around the world «System Petersen and Poulsen», which today is the benchmark for film with optical sound.
Before World War II, the company Ortofon has developed mainly in the fields of sound film. Nevertheless, during the war and immediately afterwards, the production company was reorganized to include the recording and reproducing equipment. The first moving Moving Coil cartridge was created in 1945. and principles used in its manufacture, were later converted for the production of mono and stereo cartridges.
During the busy period of company's expansion in production was also included products for broadcast and recording studios. This continued until the time that while the company does not Ortofon has decided to focus solely on the production of cartridges. Unique experience gained in the study of the process recording, has led to outstanding sound quality of each cartridge Ortofon.
